SALAMPATING GOMINARO
by Benjamin A. Claveria
The Buhinon and English versions below are the original interpretations of the author.

The folk song, Salampating Gominaro is another Bikolano favorite. As with many other Bikol songs, its lyrics have romantic symbolisms. There are variations of both the lyrics and the melody that differ slightly from each other. Sometimes the introductory four lines are omitted

SALAMPATING GUMINARO (Buhinon)

'Sad a aldaw ogma
Akong nag ataman punay
Nasanglean, nabalyoan
Nyo ogma ko nin kamendean.

Gominarong salampati
Nga saken sana nag rani,
Ono daw ikinamende
Ta nag layog ning arayo.

Tominaas, bominaba,
Nag tobod saken nga luwa
Nagin sapa, nagin sowong
Naging lawed nga ararem.

Tibaad salampati ko
Ibang romakep saimo,
Ileeg ika sa awla,
Awlang agko seradora.

Diyan ika padanayen
Da pag inom, da pag kaen,
Sagked nga ika magraan,
Ma eda na sa kinaban.

SALAMPATING GUMINARO
(
Standard Bikol)

Kaso sarung aldao
Nagataman akong punay
Nakasangle, nakaribay
Nin si ogma ko kasakitan.

Salampating gominaro,
Gominaro dahil sako,
Ano daw ikinamondo
Ta nag layog nin harayo.

Tominaas, bominaba,
Nagtoro si sakung luha,
Nagin salog, nagin sapa,
Nagin danaw na dakiula.

Halat ka sakong punay ka
Ta madakop ka nin iba,
Ilaog ka sa hawla
Sa hawlang may seradora.

Diyan ka na magdadanay
Ni pag inom, ni pagkakan,
Tanganing ka nang magadan
Mapara ka sa kinaban.

LITTLE PIGEON THAT HAS GROWN TAME
(
English)

With joy sometime ago
I got a pigeon for a pet,
But soon my joy was turned to woe
For reasons that I do not know.

Little pigeon that has grown tame,
That has grown tame because of me,
What might have been her feeling then
That prompted her to fly away..

She flew up high, she flew up low,
And my tears started falling, soon
They fromed a rill, a rippling brook,
And then a deep and wide lagoon.

My little pigeon you beware,
You might be caught in somebody's snare;
In a locked cage you'll be confined,,
Freedom forever left behind.

There you will languish filled with rue,,
No food or drink will be given you;
There you'll spend your remaining days
And only death can bring release.
