The account of the swain who drowned in the swill he was going to feed to the pigs reminds the elderly Buhinion of the time when affianced suitors were asked to undergo a probationary test of his qualities as a future husband by serving as a helper at the household of his intended bride. Feeding the pigs was often one of the chores assigned to him
