KON IKA DAING PAGKAHERAK
by Benjamin A. Claveria
The Buhinon and English versions below are the original interpretations of the author.

Many years ago, Juan Noble , a Buhinon well known for his erudition, wrote a poem in Spanish that was set to music by composer Martin P. Ailes. I liked the melody so much that I wrote my own lyrics for it in Naga Bikol. But I never did learn the Spanish lyrics and what I wrote is not a translation. I wrote the translations of my lyrics into English and Buhinon later. I even wrote one in Filipino also.

KIN IKA EDA PAGKAIRAK (Buhinon)

Kin ika eda pagkairak,
Indi mo rengegen manga inagrangay
Nin pusong eghey nang nabiyag
Nya kagayonan mo.

A malapait nga bunga
Ning sayang kong pagkameya,
Amo a ipipirit mo
Sa saken ipadusa.

Sayang sana nya paglaom ko.
Nyo pangatorogan nga saken aboten
Kabalyo ning labing pagties
'Sad a kaogmaan.

Ngowan mapondo na sana
Ning esad sa dowang bagay;
Mapait nga pagkagraan,
Pagkameya mong tunay.

KON IKA DAING PAGKAHERAK
(
Standard Bikol)

Kon ika daing pagkahirak,
Dai mo dangogon manga inagrangay
Nin sarung pusong nabihag kan
Saimong kagayonan.

An mapaiton na bunga
Nin pagkamoot na sayang,
Iyo an ipipirit mo
Sa sako ipakakan.

Sayang lamang si paglaom ko.
Si pangatorogan na sakong madatngan
Karibay nin labing pagtios
Sarung kaogmahan.

Ngonan maontok na lamang
Nin saro sa duwang bagay;
Mapait na kagadanan,
Pagkamoot mong tunay.

IF YOU HAVE NO PITY IN YOUR HEART
(
English)

If you have no pity in your heart
And turn a deaf ear to the sorrow-laden plea
Of a slave long captivated by
The magic of your smile.

That would mean the fruit most bitter
Of unrequited affection
You will force me to partake of
For the sin of loving you.

Wasted were all of my fondest dreams,
My expectations bright that some day I shall see
In exchange for all my sufferings
A ray of happiness.

Now there can be but one ending
To this agony I suffer;
Bitter death that ends all yearning.
Of your love true and sincere.
